Another runway incursion; Air Asia flight missed an approach in TIA

January 15, 2017 – Kathmandu

Not a new occurrence in Tribhuvan International Airport, an Air Asia aircraft on finals approaching for landing makes a go around after the pilots spotted three animals roaming around the active runway. TIA from time to time suffers this runway incursion incident of wildlife hazard although the security authority at TIA claims to have extended their workforce to the maximum level to prevent the runway incursion incidents. This show how the concerned authorities are focused on a matter of a major threat in safety of aviation.

The pilot was instructed to go around after spotting the presence of 3 dogs together on the runway and hence the aircraft made a missed approach procedure. The aircraft departed from Kuala Lumpur made a safe landing some moment after the runway was cleared.

By that incident, other flights on the sly of Nepal were also affected. The Air India flight and Jet Airways flight was put on hold for landing.

The security officials of TIA shot down a dog dead and other dogs were searched to be cleared from the airport vicinity. The airport was back to normal operation thereafter.
