CAAN press meet: Development works of TIA, other domestic airports and other aspects

A press meet was conducted in the conference hall of Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) on Wednesday located at Babarmahal, Kathmandu. The meeting included various reporters from different media hubs along with the biggies of CAAN and TIA. In the meeting, CAAN presented its development works throughout the year which included the completion of domestic terminal building and beautification of different domestic airports. Likewise, the total budget allocated at the start of the year was 25,92,76,00,000 rupees while the revenue collected was 10,16,36,00,000 rupees. In total, there was 43.2 percent physical progress while 31.03 percent financial progress.

The total budget required for the development of Tribhuvan Intenational Airport was one arab and eighty four crore rupees which was stated in the program. Additionally, the development of new domestic airports was also presented by the CAAN official in the presentation according to which black topping works have been completed and land acquisition have also been done in districts like Rukum, Mugu and Khanidadnda, Taplejung. Likewise, aviation safety report, ICAO Coordinated Validation Missions (ICVM) findings and (Environmental impact assessment) EIA and Detailed Project Report (DPR) at new domestic airports have been completed.

149 ropanis have been acquired in the east side of Tribhuvan International Airport for its extension. Also, 107 ropanis of area have also been acquired in Pokhara for the second international airport.

The program bore that a request to ICAO’s revalidation mission has been sent to visit Nepal by March, 2017 for the review of Significant Safety Concern (SSC) list. Likewise, a three year business plan of CAAN has been made and Review of TIA master plan has been done. Also, the works for ATC tower installation in Nepalgunj and Thamkhark has been going one and the power supply system throughout all the domestic airports of the country has been upgraded.

The developments done in TIA was also presented in the program which revealed that the construction of remote parking bay (which could accommodate Boeing 737 and Airbus 320)is going on. Likewise, SDI and testing of chiller at TIA has been done and the problem with baggage handling has been coped. The VHF has been extended and the fencing at the peripheral system has been done. The contractor for taxiway and runway rehabilitation has been fixed and Bay 1 will be extended  which could include A330 aircraft according to the CAAN and TIA officials.

In total, 14,670 flights soared internally while internationally, 19,941 flights were done as per September, 2015. The program revealed that the construction of Bay 4 will be completed till Falgun.
