CAAN to upgrades 5 domestic airports of Nepal

Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has been blacktopping runway of 5 airports at a same time.

Along with 5 airport, the number of airport with the runway blacktopped of country has reached 3 dozen.

According to the regulatory body of aviation sector, regular flights are being operated from 32 airports including Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) out of 50 airport at present time.

Sanjeev Gautam, Director General of CAAN stated that the blacktopping of the runway and additional facilities are being arranged in order to provide smooth and effective services to flight operations and passengers. “We are working by boosting up the work speed in all rural airport,” he added.

According to Director General Gautam, the runway of Thamkharka, Lamidanda, Doti, Dipayal, Baitadi and Kalikot airports are being blacktopped. The overlaying work of the runway of Janakpur airport was completed a month ago. Apart from this, the overlaying of the runway of Jumla airport, the apron extension work at Chandragadhi, Biratnagar, Nepalgunj and Simikot airport are being conducted and the work of constructing helipad along with terminal building extension work in Lukla airport and Simikot airport continues.

Currently, CAAN is carrying out construction work at 5 domestic airport.

Gautam informed that new airport are under the construction process at Kotwada of Kalikot, Khiji Chandeshwori of Okhaldhunga, Simichaur of Simikot, Sukilimbu of Illam, Arghabhagawati Sandhikharka of Arghakhachi.

“The strip of the runway of Illam and Gulmi airport were prepared and test flight were conducted a year ago,” Gautam said.

According to CAAN, the upgradation work of the runway, taxiway, apron overlay was completed at Nepalgunj airport along with two domestic airport at Sanfebagar and Rajbiraj airport witnessed runway, taxiway and apron blacktopped in 2074/75 fiscal year.
