General Manager of TIA returned back to CAAN

Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has called back the General Manager of Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) Devanand Upadhyay from his post and the responsibility of TIA has been handover to Rajkumar Chhetri.

According to the decision of Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), Upadhyay has been called back to the Authority Headquarters.

He was due to be called back in November after police examined him for the possibility of the illegal foreign currency business but due to election and other reasons it was delayed.

In addition, he was also accused for not initiating to collect around Rs 2.5 billion due from more than two dozens of international airlines operating in TIA. To investigate this, the Aviation Authority formed a high-level investigation committee, coordinating with the Deputy Director General of CAAN Mr. Birendra Prasad Shrestha.

Usually, the duration of work tenure of the airport head of the country, including TIA, is for two years. Upadhyay’s work tenure ended before last October. He is the 12th grade officer and he has been given the responsibility of Deputy Director for the Airport Directorate. He accepted his duty transfer letter on Monday. The newly appointed General Manager of TIA Rajkumar Chhetri was the Deputy Director for the Airport Direcorate.
