Govt. showing concern towards initiation of Nijgadh International Airport project

Newly appointed Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Mr. Rabindra Adhikari stated that the government will be initiating second international airport (SIA) project in Bara soon.

Addressing the area for constructing airport, Minister said that the government would decide only after understanding the local perception of transferring a settlement area for the construction of the airport.

The national pride project at Nijgadh, Bara comes after Pokhara International Airport and Gautam Buddha International Airport at Bhairahawa. Construction of both the international airports at Pokhara and Bhairahawa have already been started however, the SIA is yet to be initiated.

Kedar Bajghain, vice president of Jitpur Simara Municipality stated that the proper arrangement for 1276 families should be made and the construction work should be forwarded.

Chief of the Nijgadh Municipality, Suresh Kumar Khanal said that construction should be initiated with river barrages on the banks of Baakya river, and should make alternative arrangements for irrigation by taking into consideration the environmental impact due to the deforestation.

According to the project, due to lack of management, the construction of the international airport has been obstructed. 1100 Bigha land has been allocated for construction of the airport out of which 731 Bigha land contains settlement area.
