IndiGo took delivery of two brand new ATR 72-600s last week. Although the airline took delivery of 44 new A320 family aircraft in 2020, it did not take any new ATR 72s since December 2019.
The two ATR72s, with registration VT-IXS and VT-IXV, arrived in New Delhi last week on 23rd and 25th June as part of its 50-aircraft ATR 72 order.
The delivery of these ATRs from Toulouse to New Delhi took two days, with multiple stops in Greece, Egypt, and Dubai. The first aircraft departed Toulouse on 23rd June, arriving in New Delhi on 25th June.
The turboprops took off from Toulouse, France, arriving in Heraklion, Greece, after four hours and 40 minutes on its first leg. The aircraft then departed Heraklion bound to Sharm al-sheik Airport in Egypt on a two-and-a-half-hour ferry.
The plane then arrived at Dubai World Central Airport (DWC) after a journey of nearly five hours from Egypt. The final leg took off from DWC, arriving in New Delhi after a five-and-a-half-hour flight.
So far, the low-cost carrier has taken delivery of 27 ATRs. In addition, IndiGo placed an order for 50 ATR 72s in a move to boost connectivity to smaller towns. All of these turboprops are configured in an all-economy configuration with 78 seats.
