The runway lights installation at Chandragadhi airport gets completed

Chandragadhi airport located at Jhapa has finally completed the runway lights installation work. The airport has been preparing for introducing night flight operation from long time.

Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) initiated the upgradation work to Chandragadhi airport and Janakpur airport to start domestic night flights to cope with the growing air passengers’ demand from both the airports.

The certification to conduct night flight at the Chandragadhi Airport has already been awarded along with the necessary procedural designs. At present, only TIA, Nepalgunj, Bhairahawa, Simara, Biratnagar and Dhangadhi airports operate night flights which have the capacity to accommodate ATR-72 model planes except in Simara.

After the commencement of flight in these two domestic airport, CAAN plans to launch night flights in other big airports in Terai region. This will help to demise the hectic traffic TIA has to face as it operates both national and international flights with its limited infrastructure.

The physical and technical conditions of the airport have been greatly improved. VOR/DME equipment will be installed after the installation of runway lights.

Currently, the airport has been using Satellite Best Day IFR technology. In the past, visibility of around 5000 meters were required for the flight operation. With the use of new technology, in 2200 meters visibility the flight operation are being conducted.

Likewise, CAAN announced Chandragadhi airport located at Jhapa to be best domestic airport across the country.

On the occasion of 20th anniversary of CAAN, the authority evaluating the work of all airports has announced Chandragadhi airport, the best airport of the year.

The compliment certificate issued by CAAN has mentioned the infrastructure development and expansion work of airport, passenger service facility extension, flight operations and airport security and beauty aspects of the airport.
